Impact 100 grant at work
On Saturday, April 27, 2024, more than a dozen members of Impact 100 volunteered to help the Samaritan Car Care Clinic in Covington. Part of the crew helped with plants and mulching. The other part of the crew helped wash, wax, and sweep a donated 2016 Chrysler Town & Country van. One of the attached photos shows that team at work on that van.
The other attached photo is of the mother of four, Awa S. who was able to purchase the Chrysler van with Brighton Center’s great help.
Awa had saved $500 toward the purchase of a vehicle, and Brighton Center was able to match that, allowing Awa to buy the van for $1,000. In her own words, she could not find anything that barely ran for $1,000, let alone something as nice as the van she was able to get through the Samaritan Car Care Clinic. Now she can complete her job training and start her new job courtesy of access to affordable and reliable transportation. And with four children, the van size is wonderful.
Many thanks to the family that donated the van; for Impact 100 members who helped clean on the van that Awa now has; and for the Impact 100 grant that allowed the Samaritan Car Care Clinic to cover the cost of quite a bit of deferred maintenance on the vehicle, above and beyond the $1,000 purchase price.
This represents the 7th vehicle “placement” the Samaritan Car Care Clinic has been able to do since last November courtesy of the Impact 100 grant. The vehicles have been bought by clients of Ion Center or of Brighton Center. We have also used the Impact 100 grant to repair more than a dozen other vehicles referred to the Clinic from Ion Center and Brighton Center over the last several months.
Thanks again to Impact 100 members who have made these wonderful stories possible!
